Course details:
Burning incense has a long religious and spiritual history and remains an important part of many peoples lives. Used to clear out negative and unwanted energy, or burnt up as a sweet offering to the gods, incense is also known to have some health benefits too. However, many commercial incenses contain synthetic fragrances and substances harmful to human and animal health. Learning how to make your own ensures that you are only burning natural and safe blends.
This course will lead you through the whole process of selecting ingredients: herbs, flowers, oils, woods and resins, and blending them together in the right proportions to create unique and wonderful incense. You will be taught how to create loose incense mixture (both self combustible and non combustible) and how to make solid forms such as cones and joss sticks. You will also learn about the history and use of smudge and how to make your own smudge bundles.
By the end of this course, students will:
Understand the historical roots of incense and how it has been employed by different cultures down throughout the areas.
Recognise that incense can be made from a wide range of ingredients and that each ingredients has their own forms, qualities and properties.
Know how to blend an incense mixture using the appropriate quantities and ratios.
Be able to make a range of incense forms: smudge, loose blends, cones, sticks etc.
